Al-Balad Historic District

Al-Balad, Jeddah's historic heart, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring traditional Hijazi architecture from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The district is famous for its coral stone buildings with ornate wooden lattice windows (Roshan) that provided natural air conditioning. Narrow alleyways wind between ancient merchant houses, traditional souks, and historic mosques. Al-Balad represents Jeddah's rich trading history and multicultural heritage. The area has been carefully preserved and restored, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into old Jeddah.
